Milan, Sep 29, 2001/ FWD/ --- "You give me FEVER!" howled out the soundtrack at Lawrence Steele’s show
Friday in Milan, as the young American presented a super-sexy collection of clothes that will start pulses
racing any time they are worn.
Steele’s style is relatively simple and pared-down, but all the more sexy for those reasons. His flattering
cut and fifties silhouette made for some great clothes that hoards of women will want to wear next spring.
The show began quietly with two simple black knickers and mini tops in black, before Angela Lindvall sashayed
down the catwalk in the same outfit, though worn under a slinky cardigan with a crest bearing Steele’s
signature logo in its curvy French font.
Lawrence played around a lot with bows, placing them on the back of summer dresses and on the side and
necklines of slinky satin cocktail numbers that revealed just the right amount of flesh.
Though the collection was mostly mono-color, the designer also sent out some great computer-generated floral
prints of freakishly large roses and some cool, green abstract prints.
Department store buyers have largely skipped this season in Milan. But when their buying offices check this
collection out in the showroom, they will find plenty to order: trim wrap dresses with wide fabric belts,
snazzy flared skirts, high-waisted cigarette pants, and elongated tuxedo suits.
"Yeah, there was a fifties thing happening. It was about optimism, which I think we need at this moment,"
Steele told FWD backstage after the show.
