LOS ANGELES, Oct 27, 2004/ FW/ --- Artistic and creative, Maggie Barry’s rock pirate meets punk princess was the toast today at Smashbox Studios as the Los Angeles-based designer presented her Spring 2005 collection at the Lightbox.
Opening with a black gauze romantic gown with train, followed by a treasure chest top with romantic flounce skirt in cream, Maggie Barry revisited Pirates of the Caribbean with a rock n’ roll twist that sometimes had an element of goth.
This was the first subsection of the collection entitled Rock Pirate that featured elegantly shredded and smocked gauze pieces consisting of dresses, tops and skirts.
Sexy and revealing at times, Maggie Barry created volume and movement through draping, layering and ruching.
The second subsection, “Punk Princess” brought out the “rebellious girl” that lives within every woman. Flowing skirts were embellished with studs and rivets, body-hugging and curvaceous strapless cocktail dresses were ruched and layered.
Adding a little bit of edge, the designer added leather in the mix, making this subsection a potential favorite among the 20-something and 30-something crowd.
It was the “Ruffled New Romantic” subsection that Maggie Barry showed off her tailoring skills as she created movement and volume with ruffles and ruching. The ivory ribbon stole received a thunderous applause from the audience.
This is a fun collection and I truly enjoyed this. There are a lot of wearable pieces that will surely be in the wish list of teens to thirties.
