Mariella Burani DALLAS, Apr 30, 2007/ FW/ --- When Mariella Burani started her eponymous label she was influenced by two dichotomous group of women, the city girls of Reggio Emilia and the country women folk of Cavriago.

Combining the characteristics of these groups, they evoked the image of ‘delicate yet strong women’ and eventually, this became the icon of Mariella Burani’s design philosophy.

From her very first collection built around a black & white theme up to today, the Italian designer has stayed true to her original vision. And though the ‘Mariella Burani woman’ has evolved through the years, she is still the sum of two parts, the yin & the yang, or water & earth in Asian thinking.

With her evolution, the western school of though, ‘more than the sum of its parts’ comes into the equation. The ‘Mariella Burani woman,’ is no longer just Italian, and has become multi-cultural. She has even crossed the traditional geographic boundaries. In fact, she is a member of the global village.

So, for Fall 2007 she is wrapped herself in gypsy-inspired clothing, with her heart in Goth but with the attitude of an uptown girl.

She layers fur coats on empire style mini dresses that are sheered lightly to give it a flowing form. Appliqués and beads in graphical shapes adorn the garment. She wears black or red/black print leggings to keep warm.

She wears a bonnet with a big bow, giving her a Parisian flair; then dons snug fitting suit jacket as comfortable as a New York heiress; she is confident dressing with a layered skirt in blue, pink and white the same way a Spanish senorita does.

She exudes mystery and allure, a playfulness that radiates innocence, but her movements are sophisticated. Bustier tops in lace are layered under a velvet jacket showing her modesty, only to open it up to show lingerie-inspired blouses.

She is also comfortable in suit dresses – pencil skirt and brief suit jackets, as if she is ready to go inside a Wall Street boardroom with her gypsy attitude. Yet, no one underestimate her because under her ‘fashionista’ façade is a brilliant businesswoman.

She is a woman on the go, active and dynamic with the delicateness of a young debutante.
