MILAN, Oct 1, 2003/ FW/--- MILAN, Oct 1, 2003/ FW/ --- In a season where trends such as
‘floral’ and ‘pretty’ are key focal points, Mariella Burani finds herself in her element
and presents a spring summer 2004 collection that is eclectic and vibrant.
To the sounds of folk music and with a group of theatre boys in the background gypsy women
paraded down the catwalk.
They appeared as travellers unafraid of new discoveries and equipped with the desire to mix
tastes, smells and sights found along the way.
Bustiers, ruffles, elaborate lace, long flowing skirts all part of the look that her clients
each season have come to love. Floral is not a novelty for the designer and she places it
everywhere including hosiery, the Burani woman is feminine and ‘free’.
Rolling seas and smooth curves are part of a passionate tango.
Sexy comes from the traditional as the women strut their stuff, in the way they move and
the confidence they portray, all transformed into items such as strappy dresses, padded
tops and hints of transparency while decorated and detailed jackets accentuate the upper body.
As the show notes stated “Luxury challenges informality. It detests everything that
is average.”
True to her word, fabrics are extravagant often twinkling in the light.
She is romantic and reminiscent of the past, proving that mixing and matching is perhaps
just an act of courage where night and day become irrelevant.
