Martine Sitbon's Simple Chic
By: Marian Faddis
March 16, 2002/ FWD/ --- This season Sitbon designed for women who can't be hassled with
the complications of getting dressed. Her simple ensembles are for the woman who works hard
for what she wants and gets it -- seemingly effortlessly.
The show opened with Carmen Kass in a sexy gray pinstriped skirt suit that didn't show a lot
of skin, but plenty of curve.
The tight, small jackets with buckles across the chest were flattering and sharp.
A pale-pink sateen jacket, collar-less and crumbled, was freshly chic.
The standouts of the collection were a series of black cocktail dresses that symmetrically
strapped over the shoulder, under the shoulder and around the back.
Fanning at the waist added a subtle, futuristic touch. These pieces underlined why she is
often dubbed the "designer's designer."
She added some color patterns this season, sending forth multiple tie-dyed dresses and
skirts in velvet.
The patterns were loud but not complicated in off-white, navy blue, green and deep violets.
Although some dresses were plain and repetitive, such as the sleeveless dresses, and the
velvet bustiers unlikely, all in all it was a clean, wearable and smart collection.
