Mary Ping Fall 2006: The Illusionist
New York Fashion Week Fall 2006
By Randal Jacobs

NEW YORK, Feb 6, 2006/ FW/ --- With a live Rock Band, Mary Ping set a tone for an illusion of her own as she presented her Fall 2006 collection last Saturday at the Scandinavia House here in New York.

This collection was very detailed oriented with a rustic mixture of color. Each piece was dated, but not quite with a particular era. The fabric of the moment was wool tweed, which adorned skirts, coats and trousers.

One of the most interesting details was patent leather on the waistbands of wool pencil leg skirts. This shiny waistband was the right mixture between kinky and Mary Tyler Moorish.

Mary Ping’s use of cashmere and mohair sweaters in winter whites was illuminating creating a sense of warmth and harmony which toned down other sharper looks within the capsule. A mixture of stripes in light tan and black added a splash of fun.

Lizard ankle boots with a thick heel finished each outfit. Other organized yet playful classical shapes followed with two great feminine tuxedo rabbit tale jackets in black and white satin outlined in contrasting non-color as well.

As the band, The Double entered into their last song a beautiful lumene white angora hand knit sweater dress arrived down the runway worn by Ajuma. The sweater dress was the highlight and stronghold within Ping’s collection. It was also a great way to make a statement of a beautiful piece on a living work of art of a model.
