Mary Ping: Designing Woman
By Boyd Davis

Mary Ping DALLAS, Oct 31, 2001/ FW/ --- Born and raised in New York, Mary Ping garnered her first internship at Balenciaga at the age of 15. She knew then that she wanted to be a fashion designer.

But instead of entering a fashion design school after high school, following the advise of her parents, she entered Vassar College and studied art. She was a member of the Class of 2000 with a BA in Art and a concentration in Sculpture.

Her years at Vassar did not extinguish her designing dreams. After graduation, she immediately applied for her Masters at London's Central St. Martin's. She trained under Jessica Ogden and Robert Cary-Williams, learning how to cut experimental clothes with precision while developing her own style at the same time.

After her stint in London, she returned to her native New York to launch her own label. She debuted at New York Fashion Week during the Spring 2002 season.
