Poised and Elegant
Michelle Roth Couture to Launch Nationally
By: Carrie Haynes
Oct 5, 2001/ FWD/ --- Elegantly draped models glided across the floor of the loft salon on 57th Street yesterday afternoon,
premiering the Spring 2001 Michelle Roth Couture Bridal Collection.
Traditional beauty riveted through the parade of Roth's designs. Full tulle skirts, beaded bodices, and silk
satin organza created silhouettes of classic glamour for beautiful brides. The ball gown and princess line
dress designs exuded confidence and poise, in perfect balance with Roth's preference for floor length chapel
and cathedral length veils. "A blusher over a bride's face is just so moving and traditional. I wouldn't send
my brides down the aisle in any other way," Roth said.
The Manhattan based designer successfully captured a mood of sheer elegance in her Couture collection,
focusing on texture and depth. Three dimensional lace overlays cascaded from the backs of the models.
Colors consisted of pure white and candlelight as opposed to experimental choices such as maize yellow and
celadon green.
It is this same sensitivity to color combined with her preference for silk satin that attracted attention
to Roth's designs in the early nineties. Australian born Roth was engaged in the world of design from a young
age; her parents have operated the bridal business Henri Josef for 40 years. These trademarks along with her
new signature collection of lacy feminine fishtail sheaths and storybook princess gowns are her ticket for a
national launch during New York bridal market week, October 6-9. The company has doubled in size in the last year
and is hoping to expand into Europe by the spring of 2001. Roth is determined to move forward and has vowed not
to let terrorism halt her progress. "We have the capacity and want to grow, to be strong, to be positive and
provide employment in America. We want to lead by example," she said.
In honor of the tragedy, the couture collection climaxed with Roth's "Liberty Love," a ball gown of silk white
satin with a long strand of red satin twirling around the base and gold stars set in blue adorning the top of
the bodice. Red rose petals were delicately suspended inside the model's white tulle veil. "Liberty Love" is
available at the Michelle Roth Salon and select salons across the country. Priced at $4900, a percentage of
all proceeds will benefit the Red Cross.
