Mila Schon MILAN, Sep 24, 2006/ FW/ --- Showing to a mostly hometown crowd, Mila Schon attempted to redefine sensuality by identifying the ‘back’ as an erogenous zone and using ethnic icons as markings of sophistication.

A collection that consisted entirely of daywear pieces, Mila Schon skillfully used the obi and totem pole insignia to highlight the waist, the neck and the back.

Most of the dresses are backless, save for a 4-pointed quilted golden star that titillated and played on one’s imagination of what is hiding underneath. Uneven hemlines of accordion pleated skirts give a peek of the thighs, but nothing more.

It’s alluring and sensuous in a different sense, the femininity almost playing hide & seek with the masculinity effect of the tribal markings. Even ruching, which is generally identified as feminine, was gathered together by quilted Egyptian symbols that went around the waist then towards the hemline and repeated on the neckline.

Trousers are slim fitting while suit jackets featured wide lapels that became a deep V neckline as an obi belt covered the whole waist area.

Graphical printed chiffon that are transparent are worn over tribal armor, again, making one wonder what is hidden underneath. Sensuality has been redefined as not entirely feminine, but a blending of elements that include masculine symbols.

Mila Schon’s silhouettes did not break new grounds in fashion, but the designer gave the audience an alternative definition of sensuality. And that is philosophical in more ways than one in fashion terms.
