MILAN, Jun 27, 2003 /FW/ --- Barrett is concerned about the generation gap. In Milan,
in the middle of a park he showed his spring summer 2004 collection which concentrated
on the concept of a grandson raiding his grandfathers wardrobe.
"I thought of a grandson stealing his grandfather's clothing to mix the styles, and
on the other hand, the grandfather who observes his nephew to try and find a new way
of wearing his own clothes."
Practical and appealing, a Brit that is nonetheless dedicated to 'Made In Italy' simply
because according to the designer it is the best place to create fashion.
The silhouette is aimed towards comfort rather than slim and figure hugging.
Trousers and jackets have been fabricated with extreme attention on tailored and stitching
detail, an indication of a timeless style.
Grandfather shirts with linen bibs mixed with cargo pants, pants with ties around the ankles,
deliberately faded denim and leather jackets and jeans.
Hemp used to design a virile but light man, vintage cotton cord, seersucker, washed
nappa structured garments make for a 'cool' grandson.
Colours are that of the old days, but still current, blues, natural, sand with additions
of now in raspberry, lemon, pistacchio.
A new gentleman interested in quality, carrying all the same a cell phone or palm pilot
mixes and matches creating his own style often from pieces that are right under his nose.
