Paco Rabanne: Let The Golden Times Roll!

Paris, Oct 8, 2002/ FW/ --- Looking at the glitzy show presented at Paco Rabanne yesterday,
you'd never guess that the world is on the brink of global economic meltdown.
The horizon is always bright so long as you keep blinders on.
And that's exactly what you'd need to block some of the glare of the metallic swimwear that
came down the runway.
The flash of silver seams, and the sparkle of Aloha-style golden wreathe-necklaces that almost,
though not successfully, covered the models breasts only added to the sparkle.
The electric and eclectic collection would have been perfectly at home on the Las Vegas strip,
though perhaps not so welcome in the boardroom.
It all conjured up a scene from the Beverly Hillbillies: the one where skimpily clad women
surrounded Mrs. Drysdale's Daddy as he rolled the dice.
Program notes suggested that "yards of silk, crêpe and satin suggest suppleness and fluidity".
That well may be the case, but they certainly didn't suggest understatement.
For all of the glittering distraction, there were some absolute gems among the muddle.
Fine leather suits were razor-cut to accentuate the silhouette, and the black toga-like
dresses and slacks made for a nice diversion.
There was also a particularly fine Oriental-style jacket of gold brocade inlaid on black silk.
Let the golden time roll at Paco Rabanne, and let's just hope that the rest of the world
soon follows suit.
