Pegah Anvarian Spring 2006: ‘Jamaican Love Potion’
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios (Los Angeles Fashion Week) Spring 2006
By Mari Davis

Pegah Anvarian LOS ANGELES, Oct 18, 2005/ FW/ --- Inspired by the ‘intoxicating coral colors of the reefs, the rhythms of the dancehalls and the sultry, sexy heat of the Jamaican summer nights,’ Pegah Anvarian played with volume and colors and came up with definitive L.A. silhouettes as she mixed urban and island influences.

Opening with a deep V-neckline plum lurex dress that featured asymmetrical hemline and ruching, Anvarian’s vision of Jamaica is sophisticated and sensual as she sent flowing dresses and gown on the runway.

But to Anvarian, there is also another side of the island, the more casual attitude that she captured via slim-fitting Capri-length pants and shorts rolled at the hem.

The silhouettes might not be revolutionary, as Anvarian used tried and true forms but her use of colors especially the monochromatic tones of blue, aqua, green and orange is innovative.

The Dallas-born designer also played with embellishments as she used braided piping and braided spaghetti straps to accent the bodice.

Anvarian proved also that she is great in draping, as the clothes become second skin to the wearer. Yet, her tailoring skills still need some mastery as she continues to foray into the more structured looks to emphasize the female form.

Nevertheless, it is a good collection and definitely a lot of the pieces will find their way into a woman’s wardrobe when March rolls around.
