Renée Bardot: Can Models Dance?

LOS ANGELES, Nov 1, 2003/ FW/ --- The quote on the show notes was eye catching. It said, “Don’t mess with Renée Bardot. She gives the baddest fashion show … And if you don’t treat her nice, she’ll put you on ice.”
So, last Wednesday at The Space during Mercedes Benz Shows LA, the audience was expecting rap/hip hop music to accompany rap/hip hop clothes.
Everyone missed the target by a mile. Renée Bardot presented an eclectic collection inspired from almost everything under the sun --- 1920s flapper girls, 1960s go go girls, 1970s punk, even flamenco dancers.
Models danced to the beat of mixed music that was hard to tell what was the influence because it was truly mixed!
The dances were even eclectic – ranging from the 1960s to the 1990s. And the models were on it!
A model dressed in white hot pants and jackets adorned with a white boa and go go boots danced like a ‘cage girl’ as seen on Austin Powers.
Another one wearing a mini skirt with a wispy blouse in spaghetti strap and a shell belt danced to Madonna’s ‘posing’ style of the 1980s.
Another one in a black mini and slouchy boot danced to the 1970s punk.
And the rest – well… if you are in the club scene, then, that’s what you would have seen.
As you might have guessed, the whole collection is for the club going crowd. It was a very small and very tight collection.
Though eclectic, it was very focused, with the youth market as the target. It’s not for the faint of heart, because the Renée Bardot woman is a peacock.
The clothes scream, “Look at me!”
The finale found the designer dancing with the models on the floor, since all of them have already left the triangular platforms.
