Paris, Oct 5, 2001/ FWD/ --- Sharon Wauchob showed her Spring/Summer 2002 collection in
a school gymnasium in the Marais, the oldest area of Paris which now has become a cool and
pricey gallery locale. The hip audience sat on benches around the outside of the gym, while
the models walked on an area painted white, leaving footprints wherever they treaded to the
spacey music of DJ Seep.
The clothing was as cutting-edge as the execution of the show. Fitted blue jackets, footless
tights, skirts and tops were layered over one another, and they were topped off with fringing,
straps and jewelry by Jacqueline Rabun.
Jumbled mixtures of floral and animal prints followed and were teamed with pointed
steel-capped shoe-boots in red, white and blue.
The next set incorporated softer hues of nude, white and off-white. The silhouette
continued to be layered and looked to be an avant-garde take on the ruffled, ruched and
romantic gypsy look seen on other runways.
Irish-born Wauchob, a graduate of St. Martins, began her career as an assistant to Koji
Tatsuno in Paris in 1995. She has been designing her own collection since 1998 and is known
for her “alternative” approach.
As expected, this collection probably won't be a big commercial hit, but expect to see many
of the pieces gracing the cooler European fashion editorials.
