MILAN, Mar 7, 2002/ FWD/ --- What's one good way of celebrating a successful collection?
Show it again right away.
That's precisely what Stephen Fairchild did Sunday night in Milan, when he sent out his models
for a second tour around a witty Chinese den of iniquity in the high-ceilinged bar of the
Diana Majestic hotel.
Onto a stage set composed of Chinese mattresses, opium pipes, Eastern lanterns and even a
moutaschioed MC, the girls, many of them from Shanghai and all of them with turquoise eye
shadow, came out onto the podium.
"I wanted a show, but also somewhere where people could relax, chat and have a drink,"
Stephen explained to FWD.
There was certainly no shortage of the latter, with celebrants enjoying a new cocktail,
The Fairchild Mojito, where vodka replaces rum.
Enjoying the fun was Stephen's father John Fairchild, the man who invented W magazine, and
the now retired Pope of Fashion.
For fall 2002, Stephen dreamt up cool kimono style coatdresses, snazzy white fur jackets
and chiffon tops with pailettes.
Just the right thing for a Peking gun moll to wear out for the night.
