MILAN, Mar 7, 2002/ FWD/ --- Strenesse designer Gabriele Strehle turned to the East for
inspiration in a basically black fall/winter collection presented Monday in Milan.
A kimono theme could be seen in the black fabric sashes that wrapped around the waist,
like a sort of cummerbund, or were worn across the chest.
An Asian theme was also shown clearly in a few jackets -- embroidery centered around a
crouching tiger theme -- or in a series of peach, white and fuchsia dresses perfect for
a cherry blossom festival.
Variations from the solid and simple black color scheme were provided by the occasional
trim, or in the colorful satiny lining of the winged kimono sleeves of an otherwise black top.
Models were dressed in billowing pants and generally long, flowing, comfortable-looking
dresses, skirts and blouses in wool, knits and chiffon.
"I started last season with the oversized theme and I wanted to continue with it in a very
feminine way," Strehle said backstage after the show.
A series of black satin lingerie-style dresses were among those outfits that were simple
and sexy, although a few of the loose dresses looked just a bit too much like maternity wear.
