Strenesse: Strenesse's Preppy 'Non-Show'

Milan, Jun 26, 2002/FWD/ --- German fashion house Strenesse prides itself on the subtle
details of design, not on big-ticket fashion week performance antics.
"We didn't want to do a 'show' today because we are essentially a shape and fabric company,"
explained Strenesse President Gerd Strehle.
"We want to make clothes to touch."
Consequently, the "non-show," which took place in the company's Milan flagship store in Via
Manzoni, assumed an informal presentation format.
A crew of clean-cut, Nordic-looking models brushed by the seated group of buyers and
editors and did indeed allow for close inspection of the clothing.
And there were some interesting treatments - most notably the series of high-tech fabrics
cut into fitted, sporty shirts, as well as the crinkled, textured pieces.
Creative Director Gabrielle Strehle developed a fresh, '60s sportswear feel.
Her retro preppy theme was a strong direction, best executed with tailored, pulled together
looks.
There were small collars peaking out of fine knit cardigans and vests, paired with slim
active pants; slim fit jackets were shown with relaxed shorts.
Yet despite the absurdly high temperature inside the presentation space (leaving models
looking wet and weak, and guests exasperated), the collection never really heated up.
That said, Strenesse can be commended for its first official men's runway show and for
staying true to a concept.
With a bit of time, the collection is sure to gain the momentum and strong point of view
it deserves.
