LOS ANGELES, Nov 4, 2003/ FW/ --- Sue Wong opened the show with a short video of a model followed by others that seemed to have been shot in the 60’s era looking to get out and have some fun. Models dressed in black/white and vivid color mini dresses adorned with bold colorful hats and matching bracelets, necklaces and earrings. As her invitation read – It’s a Mod Mod Mod World!

The first segment of the Sue Wong Collection (her line of contemporary day dresses) offered many ideas and surprises that were presented into five different themes, Optique (optical), Femme Fatale, Fashionista, Mod A Go-Go, and Art Moderne.

The designer showcased various optical patterned short dresses with hanging panel skirt, jet-beaded tassel, (mod dress) with pointed sleeve & cowl collar, pailette mesh dress with deconstructed hem, mod dress with black banding, black/white hanging sequin mini dress, and an optical printed long beaded gown.

A Crinoline Godet bustier dress with cut-out lace-up back and bustier dress with pleated skirt looked dramatic as well as the V-hem corset dress with multi-stitched detail were the highlight of the Femme Fatale series.

The Fashionista series were presented with various hand embroidered dresses, fringe detailed dress, puff beaded flower trimmed dress, hand painted dress, and beaded floral appliqués.

The Mod A Go-Go and Art Moderne was presented with a mix of silk, pucci inspired, and miro inspired dresses and gowns. With various fabrics that had been hand painted and adorned with sequin beading and other various bead accents. The use of hats and headdresses was also widely present throughout the entire shows.

One might wonder, what part of L.A. might we see these collections in the spring of 2004? Rodeo drive, Hollywood, Sunset and the Universal City Walk would be my guess!

The second segment of the Sue Wong Collection (her signature collection) followed and was entitled “Nocturne” Spring 2004 was nostalgic, romantic, glamorous and very dramatic.

As with the opening, the second segment started with a video of various models seen wearing a few of the designers collections again seen wearing glamorous hats complete with matching necklaces and bracelets to set the nostalgic tone that seemed to emulate from a Saharan exotica, Bossa Nova tropicale, twenties flapper and Edwardian romance.

The collections included several slip dresses and gowns again delicately trimmed with hanging bead detail, jet beading, beaded godet hem, spiral tassel beading, hanging beads and embroidery. The pieces were also presented with either a matching shawl or shoulder scarf again trimmed with the matching trim used on the corresponding outfit.

As with the first series of collection, accessories were used, however with a more dramatic and nostalgic flair to it. Various elegant hats and/or head dresses were again widely seen on the models that took the runway also seen wearing sculpted resin with semi-precious stones and beads, adorned with ornate silver trim handbags and accessories. All natural earth friendly jewelry made entirely of horn, nail, abalone and shell was also presented.

The designer captured a moment and time where people simply want to have fun and at the same time show the soft and romantic side of them as highlighted by Sue Wong with 90 of her selected pieces.

Sue Wong’s Nocturne collections can be pictured in one of the many Hollywood and/or L.A. benefits attended by individuals of celebrity status. Bravo Sue Wong for a show of substance complete with fun, romance, and nostalgia!
