LOS ANGELES, Oct 15, 2007 / FW / --- Last night in Culver City, Los Angeles-based designer Sue Wong once again proved she has her finger on the pulse of fashionistas as she unveiled the Spring 2008 Sue Wong Collection, her new contemporary daywear line to complement Sue Wong Nocturne, the label that made her famous.
Keeping with the ‘prints’ trend that hit Paris, Sue Wong proposed graphical renditions of contemporary art inspired by the works Alexander Calder, Piet Mondrian, Joan Miro & Victor Vasarely, 20th century masters of modern art.
Seventy-five pieces divided into eleven segments seem a lot to most fashionistas for a runway show. But the full-capacity audience of Smashbox Studios’ Main Tent did not seem to mind as they applauded exit after exit.
From the Modern Art segment, to Op-art movement inspired Blanche et Noire, to Mod Garden, which is an explosion of 1960s London colors, the audience could not decide which one was their favorite piece.
Still, Sue Wong was not done yet. She then sent Primitive Africaine, a collection of dresses in earth tones wood-cut motif reminiscing the spirit of Picasso and cubism art movement.
But, it was Modern Bride that took down the house. A tradition by Sue Wong, all her runway shows always end with a bridal collection. And this time, instead of the traditional romantic bridal gowns, the Los Angeles-based designer evoked the free-spirited 1960s using paiettes and floral appliqués thus keeping her signature graceful silhouettes for bridal ensembles.
