Bliss Lau S14 (1)NEW YORK, Jan 27, 204/ — Known for her body jewelry, New York-based designer Bliss Lau used the Fibonacci mathematical sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 as the design basis for her Spring/Summer 2014 collection.

The Fibonacci mathematical sequence by definition has the first two numbers in the Fibonacci sequence are 1 and 1, or 0 and 1, depending on the chosen starting point of the sequence, and each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two.

Also known as the “Divine Proportion”, the Fibonacci sequence exists as a concept (as in mathematics) and in nature or biological settings such as branching in trees, phyllotaxis (the arrangement of leaves on a stem), the fruit sprouts of a pineapple,[9] the flowering of artichoke, an uncurling fern and the arrangement of a pine cone.

Hence, there is an organic duality that exists. Using this duality as basis, Bliss Lau created pieces that are mirrors into themselves as proposed in the use freshwater pearls and onyx which become counterpoints to each other.

These mystical gems were highly revered in ancient civilizations and are still full of symbolism today.
The Pearl in many cultures is seen as a symbol of perfection, purity and honesty. Believed by the Ancient Greeks to be the tears of the gods, the Polynesians on the other hand linked the mysteries of the full moon to the pearl.

The Onyx is known as grounding stone and throughout history has been linked to passion and mystery. In the Ancient Egyptian civilization it was believed to enhance a person’s love life and to protect and absorb negative energy.

Proposing sensually striking pieces that work as clothing accessories or intimate lingerie; headpieces, harnesses, full body pieces, jewelry; the Bliss Lau Fibonacci Collection is the perfect embodiment of purity and passion, light and darkness.
