MILAN, Feb 20, 2008 / FW/ — Rifat Ozbek went to the Far East and found Japanese sensuality so irresistible that for Fall 2008, he reinterpreted mystic allure of the geisha to 1970s glam thus creating the Japanese Roxy cover girl, an anthem to the constructions and architectural shapes of the clothes, played around well-defined lines.
Elements of the Japanese costume were also reworked, beginning with the kimono styles. Shoulders were arched and sleeves were cut wide and oversized. Narrow jackets just above the waist balance the fullness of “hakama” skirt-pants.
The theme of the obi is a recurring one. When it is not wrapped tightly around the waist, it is used to close blush fox collars or ostrich collars. Floral prints placed on voile, chiffon and silks. Ikat, Lurex, rich “waves” embroidery, precious tweed, jersey and wool jacquard.
For accessories, handbags were created in soft suede. Metal snap fasteners, mini-mirrors incorporated into the bag, pearled nappa and laminated leather inserts, visible stitching. Long, narrow shoulder straps that disappear double the bags’ look, making them suitable for both day and night.
Shoes in made with contrasting materials, patent leathers with suede. A nod to zori – typical thonged sandals worn with socks – in the vamps of shoes and boots.
