BARCELONA, Aug 12, 2004/ FW/ ---- Tall glass walls of glass encase the space for shopping at the Barcelona airport, providing a well lit atmosphere with the majority of floor space in a gleaming sleek-red granite hue. This is one of my favorite airport shopping malls. There is a store for everyone.
Duty free is emphasized in stores selling perfume, makeup, alcohol and tobacco products. Last minute airport gifts are no longer in the doo-dad category. The latest Cuesto Barcelona, La Perla and many more designer brands are readily available. Of course specialty items of the Spanish region are featured as well, such as Lladro, legs of country ham, and porcelain figurines influenced by Gaudi. There is a museum store honoring the Spanish artists Miro, Picasso and Dali.
There are stores for adults and children too. Some of the boutiques display children’s clothing and cutting edge toys. Electronics, CDs, and DVDs are found in shops next to boutiques filled with gourmet foods, wines and books. There are even two stores featuring candles and your feng shui needs. On the high end of the fashion scale jewelry, watches and purses abound.
One can grab a casual sandwich, or have a leisurely sit down meal. The local café con leche, or café latte can be purchased alongside a glass of wine for a people-watching break or seeing planes take off and land. Shopping at Barcelona Airport is perfect for a world of travelers. It is a shopping mall with wings.
