MILAN, Apr 20, 2005/ FW/ – It is official, the doors are open. Dutch duo and fashion darlings Viktor & Rolf have opened their first boutique.
Set on Milan’s exclusive Via Sant’Andrea, Victor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have stolen the scene yet again and turned everything upside down.
Like with their fashion, twisting the classical that plays with layers and volume, the 750
square foot space is perfectly symmetrical, based on Dutch and Swedish neoclassicism,
with one exception: every detail is literally upside down.
Architect Siebe Tettero, along with Sherrie Zwail of Szi-Design worked the neat and
calculated neoclassical design with astounding precision.
The space is divided into two gray-walled rooms flanked by two archways and embellished by
two fireplaces.
Chairs hang from the oak parquet ceiling and gold leafed crystal chandeliers sprout from
the floor while the doormat with the unmistakable Viktor & Rolf logo hangs above the entrance.
Even the television screen that shows their latest runway collection is fitted into an upside
down white glazed cabinet inspired by 18th century Swedish tiled stoves.
As the perfect illusion by day, nights cannot but be transformed into an ambient and
lighting installation, where mirrored doors on the wardrobes that house the collections
are closed, leaving everything lit by lamps positioned at mid-height so that the Viktor & Rolf
spectacle is not simply the ultimate shopping experience, but rather a new perspective
on the everyday.
