MILAN, May 10, 2007/ FW/ --- Pollini continues its global expansion with the opening of a 100 square-meter boutique designed by Architect Vincenzo De Cotiis at the historic Azerbaijan capital of Baku.
Located at the city’s central area, at 16, Uzeyir Hajibeyov Street, Pollini’s latest location will offer accessories and ready-to-wear.
Baku, sometimes known as Baky or Baki, is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan with about 3 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area. Since 1873, it has been known as the ‘Black City,’ because of its rich oil deposit. When the country was part of the now defunct USSR, Baku was the cradle of the Soviet oil industry, and as such, the major supplier of oil and oil products.
When Azerbaijan gained its independence in 1991 upon the collapse of the Soviet Union, Baku retained its prominence as an important city and named the capital of the newly emerged independent country.
Today, Azerbaijan is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, mainly to its petroleum and machine manufacture industries. A bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics has been placed by Azerbaijan, with Baku as the host city.
