NEW YORK, June 22, 2002/ --- Chanel's Shoe and Handbag boutique in New York opened on Wednesday, and its location next
to the newly opened Chanel Fine Jewelry Boutique is nothing if not convenient.
What better than pick up some sexy slings, a chain mail evening purse and complimentary
accessories in one swoop?
The 1,500-square-foot boutique showcases shoes, handbags, travel pieces and small leather
goods from the 2002 Fall/Winter collection.
"Madison Avenue is the ideal location to tap into impulse purchases by local residents and
tourists," Barbara Cirkva, Chanel's Executive Vice President of Fashion, explained.
"Our global shoe business has grown four times over in the past two and a half years.
The time was right for the idea of pairing shoes and handbags into a unique retail concept."

The boutique will house new designs and runway pieces. Particularly gorgeous are the
shearling 'accordion bag' (a steal at $2,725, considering the most expensive bag is $10,000),
the chain-mail purses, and the heavenly 'birdcage shoe,' whose heel is constructed with gold
wire.
The roaring success of the first Shoe and Handbag Boutique, which opened in Paris in 1999,
convinced Chanel to let U.S. shoe and bag fanatics in on the action.
The company plans to open the third Shoe and Handbag Boutique in Orlando at The Mall at
Millenia on October 18th - impulse buys to follow.
