DALLAS, May 13, 2003/ FW/ --- Last week, Salvatore Ferragamo K.K. announced the
opening of its flagship store on Chuo-dori in the Ginza district, the luxury stores section
of Tokyo.
The seven-story building consolidates the brand's presence in Japan, which represents 26%
of its yearly turnover.
Three floors of the building will be dedicated to retail space, while the remaining 4 floors
will be office spaces.
“The opening of a Flagship Store in Tokyo, is a strategic milestone," Ferruccio Ferragamo, CEO
of Salvatore Ferragamo Italia S.p.A. said on the announcement.
Discussing the store opening further, Ferruccio Ferragamo emphasized the company's continuous development
of the brand as one of the leading players on the international luxury market and the expansion
of its business in the far east.
American architect Micheal Gabellini was commissioned to design the three floors of retail
space in Ferragamo's new Tokyo headquarters.
A veteran retail space designer, Gabellini created the concept for all the new stores of
Salvatore Ferragamo. He also been commissioned to design the new Salvatore Ferragamo flagship
in New York which is slated to open this September.
The facade of the building was restored and retrofitted by Tange Associates, a Japanese
architectural firm.
In a separate release, Salvatore Ferragamo explained the reason they chose a Japanese architect
for the facade restoration is because the building should be 'in harmony' with its surroundings.
Japanese architecture in general 'blends with the environment,' as part of Nippon philosophy
of 'harmony'.
