The renovation officially began on May 2, 2003. Fourteen months later on July 2, 2002 and in record time, Jean Paul Gaultier presented his Fall 2004 – Winter 2005 haute couture collection.
Moatti and Rivičre worked very closely with the grand couturier in order to accurately
interpret and bring to life his ideas.
All arrogant gestures have been eliminated thus, blessing the building with storybook dimensions that are coupled with a rational aesthetic.
For example, the sober ivory and black colour palette, the metro-style tiles - that Jean-Paul
Gaultier is so fond of – marry into perfect harmony with the mirror-like black resin floors.
Together, they set off the coloured world of fabrics, which are reflected ten times over in an eye-dazzling manner using mirrors and glass windows measuring 5.8 meters. The glass roofs alone span 30 square meters.
Nothing in terms of details was left to chance or to a lack of imagination. One of the most
extraordinary creative elements here is a huge chandelier hanging from the roof of the
second floor of the main showroom. This light fixture is composed solely of ping-pong balls! (photo above)
The large reception hall measures 60m long by 14 meters wide and has Olympic-high ceilings
that rise 11 meters into the air.
It is a “working tool” used to comfortably accommodate and to welcome in large luxury style prestigious clients, supermodels and journalists coming from around the world.
