Calvin Klein Collection WomenDALLAS, Dec 11, 2009 / FW/ — Last night in Seoul, Calvin Klein Collection presented its men’s and women’s Spring 2010 collection in Seoul, Korea to several hundred invited guests with Creative Directors, Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli, as well as Tom Murry, the President & CEO of Calvin Klein, Inc., as hosts.

The release says that “this event was another in a series of global events that the company has been holding over the past few years in important and exciting global markets -Dubai, Rio De Janeiro, Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, London, and New York,” the Seoul event stands out because the main attraction is art.

For this special evening, the Calvin Klein Collection womenswear designed by Francisco Costa was presented in a work conceived by Korean-American artist Jean Shin, who was commissioned to design a piece especially for this event.

Ms. Shin, who came in from New York for the event, designed a series of suspended panels that were inspired and derived from the runway looks in Mr. Costa’s runway collection and utilized the actual patterns and fabrics from the collection.

As Ms. Shin stated in a press conference held earlier that day, after meeting with Ms. Costa in his design studio and discussing his process, she was inspired to design the work to express “the secret life of the clothes and how they are made.”

Meanwhile, the Calvin Klein Collection menswear designed by Italo Zuchelli was presented in a unique, floor-to-ceiling display comprised of multi-panel video projections, conceived by British curator, Neville Wakefield.

The individual videos were reformatted excerpts from the actual runway show, which were layered over each other and flanked by several looks from the collection which were suspended in front of the projections.

In this special occasion, art lives in fashion and vice versa. Interestingly, the House of Calvin Klein, known for its minimalism as it was the design philosophy of its founder Calvin Klein, is the one bringing back the art and artistry in the fashion industry, which sadly had been “very commercial” lately due to fast retailing.

The House of Calvin Klein has always been on the spearhead of fashion and not just a harbinger of things to come. Calvin Klein Collection had taken the first steps, and pretty soon, the others will follow as fashion goes back to its roots of “fashion design”.
