Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo is known for her groundbreaking and experimental ideas. After all, it’s not every designer that inspires an entire theme for the Met Gala. Her latest big idea is a holiday collaboration with nine luxury brands: Gucci, Maison Margiela, Burberry, Stussy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Craig Green, Walter Van Beirendonck, Marine Serre and Simone Rocha.

For the nine-piece collaboration, Kawakubo effortlessly combines the brands’ signature looks with CDG, like the Burberry plaid scarf with “My Energy Comes from my Freedom” printed on it and Gucci’s signature green and red stripes placed on a CDG bag.

Adrian Joffe, the chief executive of Dover Street Market and Kawakubo’s husband, told WWD, “We have always enjoyed the synergies of CDG-style collaborations, which is not about brainstorming and back-and-forth with the other party, but about trust and respect. Rei does not enjoy two captains on a ship. So, we either leave it to them or ask that they leave it to her. The nine brands were very happy to leave it to her this time.”

Currently, the collection is exclusively available in CDG boutiques in Japan. Beginning December 6, it will roll out to other CDG stores and Dover Street Market locations.
