Lucy Oblena
Researcher
A retired school principal, Lucy Oblena tackled the internet world just because it was
foreign to her and wanted to learn about it.
She started doing research for FashionWindows the old fashioned way - going to libraries
and poring through books, magazines and newspapers.
Today, she can "google it" as fast as the much younger staff members who are old enough
to be children and grandchildren.
"I like the idea of telecommuting. It is a concept that was never around when I was still
a school teacher. I do almost all the work at home and I communicate with my office via
email, faxes and phone. That's how I am able to keep up with these youngsters who are
always going places to get their stories."
And her opinion about fashion:
"I never thought I would be in a Paris runway show. It was all academic to me. But our
editor insisted that I should go at least one time so that I will understand what FashionWindows
is all about. Sitting front row at the Torrente show in Paris was the most glamourous thing
I've ever done in my life that was mostly spent teaching school children. Let's put it this
way, it was love at first sight for me for fashion seeing it first hand."
