PARIS, Dec 5, 2002/ FW/ --- Christian Lacroix has been commissioned to sign the next generation of uniforms for the 35,000 employees of Air France.

The new designs will first be seen in 2005 and are expected to remain in service for at least a decade.

The choice of Lacroix to head up this major overhaul is the result of a consultation begun in June, one which involved Air France clients, company employees, as well as a cross section of experts.

The emblematic uniform is being designed as a symbol of French elegance, reflecting an openness toward the different cultures of the world.

During the next 6 months, the couturier will prepare the pieces individually, before presenting the entire collection in June 2003.

Lacroix summed up his work for Air France in saying "In committing to this adventure, my goal is to invent a new universe, one where two dreams cross, the world of aeronautics and the world of fashion."

Last month, the designer was honored by the Alliance Francaise for his work in fashion.

He continues to design his own line under the label Christian Lacroix, and also designs the Pucci ready-to-wear in Italy.
