DALLAS, Apr 25, 2007/ FW/ --- Gucci’s roots is equestrian, its original clientele during the 1920s were horseback riders buying leather accessories from the first ever Gucci shop established by Guccio Gucci, the company’s founder.
For Fall 2007, Frida Giannini mined that heritage and created an equestrian themed collection ensuring that Gucci will rule during the upcoming races all over the world, from the Kentucky Derby to Paris’ Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barričre.
From the stiletto boots that reach the knee or thigh high to the pageboy trousers and wide-legged knickers, to the jodhpur styled pants, Giannini’s vision of the metro girl is a sportsman who spends time in the country during the weekend and attend the high-fashion gatherings at the hippodrome.
She’s a rider herself; hence, her wardrobe has leather bomber jackets, woolen blouson, knitted pullovers and vests. When it is really cold, she wears her fur vest and stole.
She might not be in competitive horse racing. Instead, she is the belle of the ball wearing those Veronica Lake inspired dresses, gowns and suits. Her coats can be as practical as a double-breasted red plaid to the opulent fur.
For evening, she is still in her Veronica Lake persona, capturing the allure of the legendary screen siren with halter-top gowns and deep V-neck floor length frocks.
The accessories are also equestrian themed from the clasped black & white belt, to the red and green signature colors of Gucci.
The only thing missing – the fabulous hats always seen at the races. But perhaps, that’s for another designer to dream about.
