Sliding Feet First - A look into Slides Shoes
By Contributing Writer

shoes NEW YORK, Sep 7, 1999/ FW/ --- Don't put your summer slides in the back of your closet just yet. Easy to slip into for summer, they're even more convenient for transitional weather and upcoming resort season. Pick up a pair that’s just your size and they’re sure to become your on-the-go favorites.

Michelle Pozan, a Manhattan fashion designer, likes the shoe best when paired with a slip dress, but capris, cropped pants, and skirts will set you up in style too. To showcase your tanned legs, Pozan suggests wearing a feminine slide with a one-inch heel and thin straps across the toes. A large selection awaits you at every store from Strawberries to Nine West to Manolo Blahnik. Start shopping in the morning and you’ll find everything from delicate silver hued fairy’s slippers to beach shoes complete with molded rubber soles and Velcro closures by lunchtime.

For a retro seventies look, $20 will buy a pair of City Snapper’s Freddy slides. A basket weave platform base and a cool floral embroidery design in earthy tones on a solid black band will put you a step above the rest. Available at Strawberries and other specialty stores. Classified’s Hatti slide has a large daisy sewn onto its leather-like strap. Platforms with a rigid bottom add a funky spin to this wooden look-alike Dutch girl shoe. Varying shades of light and dark brown give the man made material a natural, faded appeal. Available for $20 at specialty stores.

Slides step onto the beach with Azaleia’s Miranda shoe in classic colors of navy, black and white. Take these sporty, Velcro strap shoes with foam-like soles anywhere that calls for comfort and relaxation. For $25, these rubbery-soled slides will make you feel like you’re walking on air.

If clunky, casual shoes aren’t your style, take a trip to Manolo’s and choose from a wide variety of scaled-down slides with delicate designs and handmade appeal. You’ll be amazed at the intricate feather embroidery on the front of this soft, ribbed, fabric shoe. Available in black and tan tints, the pointy toe and narrow low heel will bring out your femininity. Or, for a slightly more casual shoe, handmade soles and 2 ½ inch heels are elegant touches to aqua, pink, orange, or black tipped transparent heels and bands adorning another Manolo slide. The prices run a bit steep, from $400 to $3000, so choose carefully and remember that elegance never runs out of style.
