DALLAS, Apr 21, 2004/ FW/ --- Designers Originals does not hold a runway show; they send retail buyers and the press their look book. It’s not because they don’t have the money. Their cumulative sales are estimated in excess of $1.5 billion. They just want their prices to be affordable, so they skip the very expensive runway shows that can cost up to $100,000 per season.
Designers Originals is NOT a knock-off artist either; the company has a team of designers who keep a close look at the pulse of the market.
While the runway shows are being held where photos for the look book of the big fashion houses come from, Designers Originals is also shooting their look book, proof that they did not copy anyone, but came out with their own designs.
So, the Designer Originals look book arrive at the same time as the other fashion houses. Sent to retail buyers and fashion editors, the look book is the bible of a fashion house for the current season. And here’s what can be gleaned from Designers Originals Fall 2004 collection.
Knits rule!
Going for a relaxed and sensual look this season, Designers Originals “style-conscious but not skimpy sweaters are chic and sexy and appeal to every glamour girl,” said Olga Yurechko, Vice President Design. “Knits today are so much more feminine and fun,” she added.
The pink sweater sporting a polo collar with asymmetrical buttons and the red mock turtleneck with shirring are good examples of the new look of knits.
With the advances in technology, knits can get away with so much more. Beads, sequins, ribbons, rhinestones, faux fur and Op Art graphics are just some of the embellishments that had been added, making the collection look fresh and new.
So, what’s exactly new about the new Designers Originals collection?
“We updated the classics and added Lycra to the unique Designers Originals Luxelon formula,” say Yurechko. “This turns the famous cashmere look-alike and feel-alike fabric into something even more modern.
With Lycra in the mix, that means the knits will “keep its shape” and can handle more hardware like the metallic rings and buckles, pins and beaded scarves.
The blue asymmetrical collar cardigan with jewel pin, the red V-neck all-over rhinestones sweater and the pink scoop neck with sequins and retro pin show what Designers Originals has done with their latest innovation on knit fabric.
“We’ve been doing pearls for forty years, and fashion is just catching up!” says Yurechko. “Everything from deep V necks to the light-reflecting beads and buckles are designed to flatter the face.”
And with the bright, sunnier side of the color palette used in the collection, how can one escape the enticement of these sweaters come fall especially with their very affordable price tags of 34 - $44?
Designers Originals is sold at department stores nationwide.
