ANDORRA, Nov 29, 2004/ FW/ --- What do Shrek, Mask of Zorro, Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Reveal Designs has in common? Terry Rossio.

His creativity in writing screenplays with his writing partner Ted Elliot and co-founder of Scheherazade Productions, has apparently allowed his imagination to dream of new adventures, becoming a concept co-designer & photographer for Reveal Designs. Reveal Designs has produced their first line of swimwear with a theatrical flair.

The creative team producing Reveal Designs’ bikinis, resort wear and costumes erotique are from diverse backgrounds including filmmaking, illustrator, costume design and photography.

Rossio’s style co-designer, illustrator, costume fabricator & production assistant is Paloma Candelaria. David Candelaria is also involved with costume fabrication. Shelley Carney, a long time associate of Rossio is the producer.

There is playfulness to the designs and wordplay in the names assigned to each costume / character. Going back to original sin there is the temptress Snake. Corset could be a parody on Mainbocher’s famous photo. Regal recalls early Cecil B. DeMille heroines.

Eightpiece is delightfully colorful harkening back to Rudi Gernreich’s vinyl decals and bikini.

In 1974 Rizzoli asked a select group of prominent designer’s to create fantasy clothes for an exhibition, Gernreich dressed a couple in bicycle parts; Mardi Gras and Fans by Reveal Designs would have fit into the exhibition easily.

Gernreich of course is known for his variations of topless bathing suits, however he also designed the “thong” for men and women in 1979 and a month before his death in 1985 he presented the pubikini.

With a background in dance and theater Gernreich was extremely cognizant of the body and its freedom. Reveal Designs plays with the freedom of the body as well, toying with zippers and veils.

Rossio and his design production-mates bring a sense of theater and film to their designs. Shot on location in French Polynesia including the islands of Tahiti, Moorea and Huihine, Reveal Designs has a fantasy-film peek-a-boo presentation to its 2004 collection.

It will be fun to see where the next collection evolves. One can’t help but think of the revealing dueling scene between Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Of course a Pirate of the Caribbean might not be opposed to being stranded in French Polynesia during the next Reveal Designs photo session. Food for thought – a documentary titled “Terry Rossio Unzipped” or possibly “Revealing Rossio.”
