PARIS, Apr 21, 2005/ FW/ --- Far from the excitement and glittery lights of the Paris runways
exist a number of creative talents that are getting their come-uppings in the fashion world.
Based in Orleans, fashion brand Melting Pat is one of those brands whose individualism is attracting much attention.
Patrick Lévéque, creative talent behind the Melting Pat label, uses old postal bags in burlap to create his collections. His choice of material is a most unusual source of material for ready-to-wear, but one that works.
A former costume maker, Lévéque is self-taught. He received his first sewing machine at the age of 14 and has not looked back since.
The designer began working with this material due to the fact that he was working with a limited budget. He decided to use materials that could be treated differently and relatively inexpensive to acquire. From that came his idea to use postal bags, which are 100% biodegradable and environmentally safe.
Although his collections were not so warmly received by industrial players in the beginning, the public immediately loved them. Today, Japanese, Italian, French and American buyers love his work.
For the moment, Lévéque wears multiples hats for his brand including designer, pattern maker, seamstress, commercial agent, transporters and press attaché. But he feels that it is all a part of the crucial steps necessary in taking his dreams and making them into reality.
