MILAN, Jan 16, 2005/ FW/ --- In fashion, men are often treated secondary. With the rise of the gaytrosexual, fashion marketers have been targeting men to enter into the game of fashion consumerism.
So what will men be consuming next season?
Spring/summer 2005 will be filled with frills and thrills.
The first thrill of next season will begin with psychedelic prints and motifs from not only Comme Des Garcons but also Etro, Comme Des Garcon is all about the ‘The Partridge Family’ with fitted flower shirts and knicker suits. Etro’s spoof of the 70’s is more wearable but with exaggerated coloration.
Valentino and Louis Vuitton are all about the vacationing jet setter with their salmon trousers and tennis white recreational shorts. This jet setter look is also supporting the trend of the 50’s. Cuffed dark denim with v-neck sweater sets is what Jil Sander and Viktor & Rolfe is giving us.
The suit has always been a staple in a man’s wardrobe, but this season a white suit, with dynamic tailoring, will be in high supply from Dsquared2 to Ozwald Boateng.
Next season the suit will also be broken apart and paired with cargo pants and extreme tapered jeans. Dior is hitting both fashion fads with hot tapered jeans styled with an ultra tailored suit coat.
Accessories will be kept to a minimum for the summer months. With the exceptions of the entrance of the male broach and lapel ornamentations, male accessories are almost none existent. As usual most designers presented the overly done aviator sunglasses as well as the not so well designed European male handbag.
With the Gucci bikini by John Ray getting smaller and the entrance of their oversized kaftan, who knows what a man wants?
A Real Man will want a taste of it all.
