MILAN, Jun 28, 2006/ FW/ --- Last week, Gianfranco Ferré unveiled the GF Ferré Children Spring / Summer 2007 collection in Pitti translating his distinctive style for kids and tots, the collection characterized by finely crafted, elegant forms as well as particularly luxurious materials.
Designing children’s clothes is a hard feat to begin with. As most mothers of young children would say, ‘Kids are hard on clothes.’ They are active and energetic. Their demands on clothing are almost the same as those of an athlete.
Children are also very particular customers. They immediately know what they want in terms of colors and prints. They need to feel comfortable. And though fashion might not be foremost on their minds, peer pressure is! Hence, the clothes they wear should also be acceptable to their peers.
For Spring / Summer 2007, Gianfranco Ferré had the most diverse inspirations for his very exacting customers – from travel to fantasy and imagination to the furthest reaches in terms of both space and time.
The thread that binds them, a sense of discovery with a special irresistible charge of joy, fun and energy meant to delight the lovable ‘mini-me’ of our lives.
Starting with easy to wear yet very resilient fabrics such as striped piquet, gabardine, washed reindeer and stretch, weightless jersey, as well as the knits made from a fine tricot, Gianfranco Ferré chose pastel tones in the denim, with sky-blue, aquamarine and melon pink, in the vichy patterns, the chambray and the shirting cottons.
Striped navy blue is absolutely de rigueur in the smart linen yachting jacket, the items in washed sateen or cotton corduroy, as well as the denim with its infinite range of colors.
For the girls, blue is irresistible in the polka dots with an optical flair. And summer wouldn’t be complete without the gleam of pure white that brightens the linen with raffia embroidery work, the cotton piquet boasting ottoman designs and the hand-knit crepe as well as the denim, both sporty and luxurious at the same time, because embroidered with stones and sequins.
Used right across the board throughout the entire collection, denim reveals all its remarkable versatility. It’s black, blue, azure and pastel. Treated with softening washes and pinstripe effects, spotted, worn and crumpled, the collection is customized with logo-emblazoned ribbons, patchwork effects, lacquered prints, bold stitching, leather labels and embroidered stones.
