Alexandre Herchcovitch: Delightfully Feminine

NEW YORK, Feb 6, 2005/ FW/ – Loveliness and poetry, Brazilian Alexandre Herchcovitch makes women into fairies and tradition into a modern necessity.

In an innovative presentation of ruffles, knee length skirts and feminine sensuality, talented musicians followed each individual outfit with music and song, of different tunes and different styles, overlapping and merging sounds until becoming one.

Wonderfully detailed ruffles grace almost everything, running throughout the collection, tying it together. They appear on skirts, mini shorts, jackets, dainty petticoats and capri pants, before continuing to edge hemlines, flounce below skirt hemlines and bustle giving volume.

Waistlines are accentuated, tucked and shortened, like the mini bolero bomber that sits high and covers shoulders while tailored day and evening jackets sit button at the waist and flare slightly to sit snuggly on the hips.

Herchchovitch’s European experience is evident. Not only through presentation, but also in his use of sartorial detail and design expression. He takes an idea and transforms it into a wearable wardrobe, and like any tale, with a beginning, middle and end.

The well-executed show was delightfully feminine. Skirts are nipped at, giving uneven asymmetrical hemlines that at times hide once upon a time volume plenty petticoats. When trousers do appear, they are decorated also with pleats and ruffles, and either straight legged or tapering under the knee or ankle.

And as a finale in style, as the tuxedo sporting musicians serenaded the audience, their damsels wore beautifully delicate dresses where birds nest, hearts dance and flowers bloom on transparency, filling the room with poetry, romance and a glimpse of hope.
