DALLAS, Jun 25, 2004/ FW/ --- The menswear season does not start until Sunday, yet Alexandre Herchovitch jumpstarted the proceedings early this week in Sao Paulo by showing his eponymous men’s line.
Choosing the more casual fare for men, the Sao Paulo-based designer went for 1970s nostalgia with his tie-dyed shirts, orange jackets, large checks and big stripes.
For drama, he made the models wear a handkerchief over their face, making them look like cat burglars.
Nevertheless, this collection is a good indication that Sao Paulo is not just about skimpy swimwear for women; that there is a developing menswear scene.
The designs are hardly revolutionary, but very wearable, especially for the 15-35 age group. Modern and contemporary, it’s streetwear Brazilian style, with a European flavor, probably learned from the designer’s transatlantic trips.
