NEW YORK, Sep 14, 2005/ FW/ --- The invitation for the Alexandre Herchovitch show was big and colorful, and stood out among the ‘regular’ sized envelopes.
It was the same for his show, as the Brazilian-based designer decided to use only half of The Tent for seating while the other half was for the live band that provided the background music.
Sending a very eclectic collection on the runway, with looks ranging from high-waist dresses, blouses and boleros, plus layers of ruffles that sometimes turned to aprons, it was a little bit hard to follow what was the theme of the collection.
From the peasant-inspired dresses, it could have been the 1960s when Yves Saint Laurent made that look famous. Or it could have been the 1970s when apron dresses and jumpers were the biggest craze.
Sometimes, it looked like hip-hop; sometimes it was Bo Derek because of the models’ hairstyles, though at times, this
reviewer just got lost in transition as each model that came out was wearing something outside the premise prior.
One common theme that emerged was the use of bright colors whether in the floral prints or solid colors. It’s springtime after all that these clothes are meant to be worn.
