Annie Di Lalla: Day Dresses Make A Comeback
Photos by: Edward James
Apr 24, 2002/ FW/ --- "I want to bring back day dresses," Annie Di Lalla told FW after her
show.
"Everyone is specializing on sportswear or eveningwear. Day dresses which used to be
a very important part of a woman's wardrobe during the turn of the 20th century has been
forgotten."
Taking her inspiration from the roaring 1920s and early 1930s, Annie used traditional
fall fabrics of wool, double crepe wool and lambskin leather which were creatively manipulated
to create modern classics.
Clean bold lines, flair pleated skirts and geometric necklines are the hallmarks of the
Carla Collection.
Unadorned and available in the basic colors of black or beige reflect the minimimalist
sensibility of the collection.
"The 'Carla' woman is modern and looks at life as a unique experience," the designer said
in her show notes. "Carla's main goal, for those wearing the signature is to give them the
opportunity to feel like the queen of the day. Feeling as good in a day dress as in an
evening dress would be Carla's ultimate accomplishment."
