Carla by Annie Di Lalla: One To Watch
Montreal-based designer Annie Di Lalla was born on the South Shore and has lived there
ever since.
A DEC in Fashion Merchandising gave her an opportunity to work in the fashion industry but
it was only in 1998 that she thought of becoming a fashion designer.
So, she went back to school to work on her Bachelor's degree and that turned out to be
the turning point of her fashion career.
Winning the "Innovation Volait Enfant" Grand Prize in 2001, she received a scholarhip from the
Montreal Fashion Foundation and represented Canada at the Smirnoff International Fashion
Awards 2001.
Making her debut at New Labels® and at the same time at the runways of Toronto, during the
Fall 2002 season, Annie Di Lalla unveiled her self-entitled signature line, "Carla" which happened
to the designer's middle name.
Sponsored by Smirnoff, Carla is designed to revive long lost ideals of feminitity with the
"reintroduction" of day dresess as a staple in a woman's wardrobe. Minimalism and quality are
the principles behind the "Carla" collection. The result: a redefinition of a classic garment.
In her own words, Annie Di Lalla describes her life of fashion, "My love for fashion was revealed
to me at a very young age; even then as a child, I would play with my mother's silk scarves with
which I would carefully drape my doll's tiny silhouette. I didn't know then that my little
Pandoras would eventually play an important role in my life. Today, fashion plays a predominant
role in my life and has become my major goal."
