NEW YORK, Feb 7, 2004/ FW/ --- Saturday afternoon at the tents, when most of the fashion press was still recovering from the parties held Friday night, Atil Kutoglu woke up everyone with his 1980s inspired jet-set society girls on the slopes and in the ski lodge of Saint Moritz.
Starting with the gray rayon linen optic jacket paired with black jersey pants to the last exit of gold brocade dress and white and beige rabbit and fox jacket, it was all about the conspicuous consumption that was in vogue during the 1980s.
Atil Kutoglu must be reading the market reports because according to a May 23, 2002 report by the Conference Board, “2004 will be the best year economically for the U.S. in two decades with a projected real GDP growth hitting 5.7% next year.”
So, his 1980’s inspired jet-setting society girls are right on target.
With the expected economic boom as projected by the Lincoln Financial Group, where it said that the U.S. is on the verge of the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of America, Atil Kutloglu’s focus on luxury is a great move.
According to the report by the Lincoln Financial Group, the economic boom of the 1990s created an unprecedented amount of personal wealth in America -- currently estimated at more than $33 trillion.
This personal wealth will be transferred within the decade as older Americans retire or pass away. Economists believe that bequests of this wealth will significantly boost the resources of the 76 million Baby Boomers.
In short, the conspicuous consumption which we saw during the 1980s will be back sooner than we expect.
