Atil Kutoglu: Eastern Chic
By Stacey Appel
NEW YORK, Sep 24, 2002/ FW/ --- In a season of clothes full of intricate details and bright
color stories, the Spring 2003 collection of Atil Kutoglu stood out.
His minimal designs were derived from his Turkish roots and created in an earthy palette
of ivory, chocolate brown, and white.
Nary a button was visible, most of them hidden from sight.
Interesting were the sleeves, which took on a cape-like quality due to the absense
of arm seams.
There were sharp v-neck shifts, vests, and boleros in calf leather paired with
crushed linen coats, circle skirts, and hot pants.
Several of the blouses had high, stand-up collars.
Belted dresses, jackets, and shorts in champagne silk added a softer edge to the
mostly angular collection.
However, Kutoglu did allow a little flash in his show in the form of white sequined
pants, mini skirts, and a fantastic kimono dress.
