Barbara Bui PARIS, Oct 10, 2006/ FW/ --- One of the most endearing traits of Barbara Bui is her ability to put her finger on the pulse of her fans. Season after season, she seems to have a designer’s prescience of what her clientele will want. And Spring / Summer 2007 is not an exception as the Paris-based designer presented a sportive and alternative yet classical and familiar collection.

Last Saturday, the Museé de L’Homme, venue of Barbara Bui’s Spring / Summer catwalk presentation was packed with all seats taken and the standing room area full. It was the second to the last day of the Paris season, and everyone was already tired, but still found time and energy to attend Bui’s show.

With a remix of Nine Inch Heels songs as background music, Barbara Bui fittingly sent a black & white ensemble of a mini skirt and a tank top with keyhole sleeves embellished with a laser cut graphic, the white color courtesy of a white shirt underneath.

Beautiful as the clothes were, the open toe boots catch your attention. Shown as a stiletto or a wedge acrylic heel during the different parts of the show, the shoes turned out to be one of Barbara Bui’s major innovations this season.

What followed are clothes that the metro girl would just love to have. From the empire mini with rivets on the empire waist and on the pockets, to the bustier styled jumpers that can be worn as is or with a blouse or tank top, this collection is meant for the twenty-something to the thirty-something crowd.

Ease of dressing is the key, wherein Barbara Bui demonstrated well with different styling. And though this might sound like a cliché, the sentence ‘Oh, I just put this together myself’ when someone compliments a girl on what’s she’s wearing, this is exactly the message.

Capri length trousers came as hipsters or just below the natural waist, together with the jumpsuit style shorts and bustier style hotpants will be a big part of the metro girl’s wardrobe.

It’s out of the ordinary, yet familiar as Barbara Bui fused classical tailoring with all the silhouettes. In short, it’s perfect for the Gen X and Echo Boomer generation who always want to be a little different from the rest, but within the accepted norm of polite dressing.

And, this is exactly the reason why Barbara Bui continues to gather fans every season. Her understanding her clientele’s psyche is what emerging designers would love to have. But there is only one Barbara Bui, and that’s why we love her!
