Bill Blass Bill Blass NEW YORK, Feb 9, 2007 / FW --- Continuing his love affair with the 1980s, Michael Vollbracht at Bill Blass paid homage to the strong women of the 1980s, fictional and real, sending sharply tailored suit skirts, multiple variants of coats and jackets and svelte gowns that just scream Ewing women from Sue Ellen of Dallas to Abbey of Knots Landing.

Perhaps its because ‘Dallas’ is in the new right now with no other than John Travolta rumored to play JR Ewing. Maybe, it’s because Michael Vollbracht is figuratively a child of the 1980s, the decade when he honed his skills as a designer.

No matter what the reasons might be, it was a triumphant moment for Vollbracht beginning with the fuchsia bouclé coatdress to the beige bouffant gown with very deep V neckline, until the final exits of little black dresses.

And for a house as historical as Bill Blass, its founder known as the true American sportswear designer, Vollbracht’s Fall 2007 collection presents American sportswear at its best.

From the mannish pinstripe suit to the plaid double-breasted coat jacket, it’s also about the power women of the 1980s. Remember Nicolette Sheridan as Paige Matheson at Knots Landing when she used to wear these suits?

Actually, all the Knots Landing women, the ‘original’ Desperate Housewives can wear any piece and all the pieces from this collection for the Knots Landing reunion.

Better yet, the costume designer for ‘Dallas’ the movie, which is being produced by Regency Enterprises/20th Century Fox, will have a field day with this collection! It’s everything the female cast members will need for the shoot.
