Byblos: Martine Sitbon's Wide-Ranging Appeal

MILAN, Feb 28, 2002/ FWD/ --- There is no single identity that defines the modern woman,
and Martine Sitbon embraced a mélange of personalities and types with her Byblos fall 2002
womenswear collection.
That heterogeneous approach resulted in a something-for-everyone appeal at the presentation
today in Milan.
Cool biker jackets and dresses, classic mid-length coats, Wild West inspired frocks and gold
eveningwear made strong impressions. Then there was the series of sheer black dresses and
shirts, and some mellow '60s references.
Echoes of Miu Miu even snuck in from time to time, reminding one that the brand was acquired
just last summer from Miu Miu parent Prada.
Materials were light, with a preference for colors like beige, brown and black, and the looks
were anchored with lace-up boots or solid high heel shoes.
Appliques of gold petals in satin or leather ran as a theme throughout the collection,
to varying degrees of success - sometimes smart, often fussy.
The collection marks Sitbon's second for Byblos, and there are already rumors that it might
be her last.
Sandy Dalal, who was the Byblos menswear designer for less than a year, recently left to
begin designing menswear for the International Brand Concept (ICB) label of the Onward
Kashiyama group.
