NEW YORK, Oct 23, 2002/ --- Camilla Staerk is getting lighthearted.
"The next collection is going to be very different from my others," the designer said, in
her Danish/London lilt. "I am becoming too known for dark and melancholy, and I don't want
to be. The colors in my collections will remain subtle, but I am lightening up and introducing
prints for the first time."
The 28-year-old Danish native was unable to show this season due to financial restructuring
but has produced a small collection and plans to show in New York in February.
"I have only shown in London so far, but to do something in New York is my dream and that
is what I am working towards. Showing here will also mark a simpler, cleaner, more mature
feel to my designs."
After moving from a small town outside of Copenhagen, Camilla moved to London in 1996 to
study for just one year, but has been there ever since.
"I love London and the press have received my shows very well there," she says, "but it's
New York or Paris where I now ultimately want to be."
The British press has certainly supported her whimsical, fairytale like designs -- British
Vogue hailing her "a future star" -- but she is set on making a move.
"I have spent this last week meeting press and buyers in New York and it has gone very well,"
Staerk said. "I am leaving today but am already planning my next trip back. It's time for
a change."
