DALLAS, Oct 22, 2001/ FW/ --- If Cynthia Steffe was thinking of Jackie Kennedy during her White
House years, then she hit it right on the mark with this collection.
Elegant pieces of double breasted coats and raincoats with matching hats and/or scarf,
someone born during the 1980s can wear this modernized and updated look of Jackie Kennedy's
wardrobe.
But the inspiration did not end with the former First Lady. You can also see a touch of
the 1920s, with the flapper look and bathing suits.
Then there is the equestrian look, made more for playing polo if you are girl between
15 and 25. Or if you are not into horseback riding, you can use it while rollerblading
or riding a bike.
A little bit of this, a little bit of that, taking inspiration from several decades that
are so far apart made this collection contemporary and delicious.
Yes, delicious with its sorbet and chocolate colors with a tinge of sophistication. After
all, although young girls might want to look a little bit older than 15, they don't want to
look that old!
Slim fitting tops were paired with pencil skirts or pencil pants. Hemlines were either
assymetrical or below the knee.
And don't tell a Cynthia Stefee girl that her slip is showing! Her dress was designed that
way - double hemlines, that looked like a mini-skirt on top of a soft transparent material
usually voile.
Almost all of the pieces were accessorized with either a belt, a hat or a scarf. Shoes are
strappy sandals or dress thongs. Dress shoes are either high-heeled loafers or tailored dress
shoes with straps.
Cynthia Steffe also made the Hosiery Association happy when she had almost all of models
wear hose. From knee highs to thigh high, from white to black and colors of the rainbow
in-between, HOSE IS BACK! Or should I call them leggings instead? Of course it's worn differently
than your mother wore them.
Cynthia Steffe also sent handbags to the runway which is just the right size to hold your makeup
and modern gadgets - beepers, cell phones or palm pilots. But they are not big enough for books.
Sorry girls, you still need your backpacks for that or a boyfriend to carry your books for you!
If I was 18 again, I would probably grab half of these clothes for my wardrobe! Definitely
a very wearable collection and something you should expect to see in stock at your favorite
boutique or store in March 2002.
